Based in Munich, the SVAPINGA CONSORT is dedicated to setting diverse musical worlds in dialogue with one another through performance on period instruments. Taking its name from the original word for Schwabing (Munich’s historically vibrant artists’ district), the ensemble was founded in 2016 through the close collaboration of Maria Raffaele, Robert Selinger, and Amy Shen.

The Svapinga Consort’s repertoire is centered around German vocal-instrumental music.  Its broad musical interests—extending from the early Baroque through to the Romantic era and modern times—bridge both centuries and kilometres, interweaving far-flung sound worlds into compelling and unusual concert experiences.

The musicians of the Svapinga Consort hail from all over the globe and have been trained in some of the most renowned educational institutions for historical performance practice.  They work regularly with a wide variety of ensembles, and the majority of those professional activities are focused in the field of early music.
